We are proud to announce that Barry Round’s 1981 Brownlow Medal has been added to the Peter Weinert Museum collection.
Round is one of the most influential figures in our club’s history. A towering ruckman and inspirational leader, he captained the Swans from 1980 to 1984, won two Best & Fairest awards, and earned the game’s highest individual honour — the Brownlow Medal — in 1981.
Named at ruck in the Swans Team of the Century, Round’s courage and optimism were instrumental during the club’s relocation to Sydney, helping lay the foundations for the national competition we know today. Sydney’s Best Clubman Award is named in his honour.
An AFL Hall of Famer, Round was inducted into the Swans Hall of Fame in 2009 and was elevated to Bloods Champion status in 2022. Sadly, he passed away later that same year.
Round’s Brownlow Medal is a treasured piece of history that is now on display for all to see, celebrating a player who embodied resilience, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the red and white.
The Peter Weinert Museum is located at the Sellers & Colless Centre – Sydney Swans HQ in Moore Park – and is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Sydney Swans home game days at the SCG.
