Sydney Swans draftee, Madeleine Quinn, will have the chance to realise a dream when she pulls on the red and white guernsey.
The 18-year-old grew up a Swans supporter and spent several years in the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, working towards her dream of being drafted.
“Really happy, I'm just so excited to be here. From being in the Academy and being through all that and then to live out my dream at the club I've just loved for so long, I'm just so happy,” Quinn said.
“I just love the club, they're such a good community club and the people that I've met in this place is amazing so I'm so excited to meet so many more amazing people.
“The Academy’s support has been amazing, I wouldn't be here without them, the coaches that I've had, shout out to Tanya, she's been amazing, without them I wouldn't be here today.”
Sydney matched Brisbane’s bid at pick 18 to secure the athletic tall.
Quinn was watching the draft with family and friends at home, when she was surprised by new teammates Montana Ham and Imogen Brown.
“It was the best feeling, I just remember seeing my face, the shock on my face and then I started crying and went over to my mum and she was crying as well, yeah, it was a really good moment.
“I had Mon Ham and Imogen (Brown) come visit which was really cool, it kind of made it feel more real and just made it so much more exciting and yeah, I just couldn't be happier.”
Quinn was also surprised with a facetime call from her favourite player Ally Morphett on draft night.
She said it was a surreal moment, and she was thrilled to now be teammates with her idol.
“It was really cool, like to now know that I could be playing with her is amazing, I'm so excited,” Quinn said.
“I really admire, just the way she plays and the way she goes about it.
“She's such a competitor and I really look up to her and want to play like her, so yeah, I'm just so excited.”
