Sydney Swans midfielder James Jordon spoke to the media on Tuesday ahead of Sydney's Gather Round clash with the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday. He spoke about the team's big win over West Coast, his role as a tagger and what the team needs to do to get a win over the Suns at Norwood Oval.
On playing four-quarters of football
"It's always a good contest when we go up against Gold Coast and I felt like on the weekend we were able to play a strong four-quarter game and we're going to have to do that again this week and I'm really looking forward to it. I mean every week you go out there and you want to play four-quarters of footy and we know that our brand of footy, if we play four-quarters we can match it with anyone and we're really excited this week and looking forward to the game."
On the Gold Coast's loss to Melbourne last week
"I did tune in for a bit of that and Melbourne were pretty good, they put on the pressure and that's something that we're going to have to do this week as well. I mean their pressure was really high, Gold Coast really want to get the ball moving fast, similar to what we want to do and Melbourne were able to put some pressure on and get some good turnovers and that's something that we'll look to do."
On if he will have a job on a Suns player this weekend
"Nah, I'm not too sure yet, we've had a brief look at Gold Coast before but no, Coxsy hasn't said anything yet, they've got a whole heap of talent across the board there so if we go that way then I'm happy to do whatever Coxsy wants me to do. I really enjoy it, I'm a pretty competitive person and I enjoy that challenge every week and if that's my role for the team I'm more than happy to do it and if it can contribute to us winning games of footy then yeah, I'm more than happy to do it."
On spending more time in the midfield
"I mean, I'm happy to play wherever Coxsy wants me to play and I think that's a real strength of mine is being able to play a number of roles and I think a lot of boys in our team can do the same thing as well. But yeah, it was nice to get up around the ball on the weekend."
On his preparation
"Nah, definitely got to watch a lot of vision. You're often going up against their number one playerand if you give them a split second they can just break the game open like that. So watch plenty of vision, sit down with Benny Matthews, Amon Buchanan and try to put a little plan in place and you've got to be aware of things that they might throw at you as well. Like I say, I'm a pretty competitive person and I just love the challenge of going out there every week."
On the size of Norwood Oval
"I think it's similar to Geelong's ground as well. It definitely was a bit noticeable but we'll adjust and we're looking forward to getting there. I've heard nothing but good things about Norwood and the crowd there so looking forward to it."
On the Gold Coast Suns
"They've got so much talent across their whole team and they're one of the teams that will be pushing for finals, top four and really looking for that challenge and seeing how we go against them."
On Isaac Heeney
"If he can keep playing the way that he played on the weekend, it goes a long way into helping us win games of footy. We love having out there, he's sort of our barometer and he sets the tone in that midfield and he's been awesome to start the year."
