The Sydney Swans have secured two exciting players for the future, with Oliver Florent and Jordan Dawson signing two-year contract extensions.

Florent’s deal will see him remain in red and white until at least the end of the 2020 season, while Dawson will be a Swan until at least the end of 2019.

Florent joined the Swans with pick 11 in last year’s AFL Draft. Recruited from the Sandringham Dragons in Melbourne, Florent made an immediate impact in his first pre-season at Sydney, earning his debut in Round 1 this year. Florent has played a further five games this season showing plenty of dash and poise when the ball is in hand.

Dawson joined the Swans with pick 56 in the 2015 AFL Draft from Sturt in South Australia. The left-footer showed plenty of promising signs in his first pre-season but had to wait until Round 3, 2017 for the opportunity to make his debut. The 20-year-old has played one AFL game so far and has been performing consistently in the NEAFL.

Head of Football Tom Harley says the Swans are pleased to secure the exciting duo.

“We’re really happy to have both Jordan Dawson and Ollie Florent commit to the Club,” Harley said.

“Jordan played his first game against Collingwood and has been back in the NEAFL since, but he’s really starting to dominate games.

“We think he’s a fantastic character and exactly the type of person we want to have around the Club – and he’s developing really nicely as a footballer.

“Oliver Florent was obviously our first pick in the draft last year and he has since had a taste of senior football.

“Ollie has settled in well – he’s a Melbourne boy – so to have your first-round draft pick commit beyond his mandated two-year contract is great.

“To have young talent like Ollie, Will (Hayward), Darcy (Cameron) and Jordan coming through the ranks and committing to the Swans augers well for the future – and we’re certainly very excited.”

Florent and Dawson join Isaac Heeney, Callum Mills, Will Hayward and Darcy Cameron in recommitting to Sydney in 2017.
