The Sydney Swans Football Club thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the bushfires across Australia.

On behalf of the Club we say thank you to our firefighters and emergency services who continue to work tirelessly to protect communities.

We urge everyone to continue to listen to their advice and stay safe.

Sydney Swans players have thrown their support behind the disaster relief and recovery efforts of the bushfires by launching a gofundme page.

The playing group has already raised more than $10,000 since the page was set up on Sunday evening raising funds for the Australian Red Cross Foundation.

Below is a message from the players:

“As a team, we are absolutely devastated by the effects of the fires in our home state and across the country. We are banding together to help provide some relief and are asking for your support to help end this catastrophic disaster. All funds raised will be donated to The Australian Red Cross Foundation. We will continue to do our part in helping to rebuild what has been lost. Please join us!”

As a Club we will work with the AFL to find the best way to support those who have been affected.

The Sydney Swans visited the fire affected region around Coffs Harbour before Christmas as part of a community camp.

Players heard from local RFS representatives about the fire fight and thanked the emergency services for their amazing work in fighting these fires.

Coaching and development staff also went to help with the rebuilding as part of the BlazeAid recovery effort as they rebuilt fencing for a local farmer in the area.
