Premiership teammates Amon Buchanan and Brett Kirk will lock horns as coaches on Saturday when Greater Western Sydney hosts the Sydney Swans in the Marsh Community Series.

Buchanan, the Giants' stoppages coach, will continue his rise through the ranks by leading GWS as Leon Cameron takes a back seat.

Kirk, who has moved from midfield assistant to a development role and high performance in 2020, will coach the Swans and replace John Longmire.

Longmire will coach the All Stars in the State of Origin match for bushfire relief less than 24 hours earlier at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.

However, unlike Longmire, Richmond coach Damien Hardwick will resume his normal Tigers responsibilities on Sunday when his side travels to Wangaratta to face Collingwood.

Both Kirk and Buchanan tasted premiership success under Paul Roos as players at the Swans in 2005.

It is the second time Kirk will have taken the reins as coach after leading Sydney during the JLT Community Series in 2017.

Last year, Giants senior assistant Matthew Nicks replaced Cameron for the pre-season before departing at season's end to coach Adelaide.

Both Cameron and Longmire are expected to revert to the senior coaching seat for week three of the Marsh Community Series.
