The Sydney Swans are mourning the loss of training volunteer and long-time member John Wright, who has passed away suddenly this week.

In lugging around equipment, helping set up the training tent, filling bottles and taking care of a host of other responsibilities, Wright developed a reputation as an affable, a passionate and a hard-working man since beginning as a volunteer in 2018.

But the 67-year-old’s ties with the club extended well beyond his two seasons as a volunteer, with the steadfast Swans supporter having become a member in 1999.

In his 21 seasons as a member, Wright was a familiar face in the stands as the Swans powered to 17 finals campaigns and won premierships in 2005 and 2012.

The Sydney Swans extend their condolences to Wright’s family, including partner Donna and son Sam.
