Sydney Swans forward Lance Franklin will miss the restart of the AFL season after scans confirmed his hamstring injury.

Franklin injured his right hamstring in running drills during training on Wednesday.

Sydney Swans General Manager of Football Charlie Gardiner said it’s too early to say how long Franklin will be sidelined.

“The medical team received the results today and confirmed it’s a decent hamstring injury,” Gardiner said.

“It’s on his right side and he has no history of injury to that side. He won’t run for the next three-to-four weeks but the positive is there’s no tendon damage in the hamstring.

“We think it’s slightly worse than the injury he sustained last year mid-season, and he missed about nine weeks, so that might be an indication but we just don’t know until he gets into his rehabilitation and we see how he progresses.”
