Key position players Sam Reid and Lewis Melican look set to be available for selection to face Hawthorn at the SCG on Saturday afternoon.

Reid played in a reserves hit-out last weekend and looked strong after recovering from a calf injury.

Executive GM of Football Charlie Gardiner said it’s nice to get some good news on the injury front.

“We do have a few boys back with Sam Reid getting through a scrimmage session on the weekend so he will be available,” Gardiner said.

“Joel Amartey and Lewis Melican will also be fit and available for selection, which is a positive.”

However the availability of Colin O’Riordan (hip), Will Hayward (knee) and George Hewett (back) remains unclear – all will be assessed later in the week.

O’Riordan jarred his hip during the first half of the match against the Gold Coast and sat out the remainder of the game.

“We will have to see how he (O’Riordan) goes at training this week. There is a chance he will get up, but it will just depend on whether he gets through training on Thursday,” Gardiner said.

Hewett is in doubt with a bulging disc in his back, while Hayward played out the match despite hyper-extending his knee during the third quarter.

“He (Hayward) was able to play out the game but did pull up a little bit sore, so he is another one who is in doubt and could miss this week,” Gardiner said.

“We will just have to see how things progress this week.”
