SYDNEY Swans co-captain Adam Goodes has been given the honour of captaining the Australian squad on the two Test tour to Ireland.

Goodes, 30, was announced as captain of the International Rules team at a press conference in Melbourne this afternoon.

It is the second time Goodes has been part of the Australian squad to take on Ireland, after he earned his first Guernsey in 2001.

The three-time All Australian and dual Brownlow Medallist will leave with the squad tomorrow for a two week tour of Ireland.

The first Test will be held in Limerick on October 23, and the final Test will be in Dublin on October 30.

Goodes will be joined by Swans team-mates Jarrad McVeigh and Kieren Jack on the tour, while Tadhg Kennelly is expected to line up for the Irish national side.

The Australian squad, which includes top players from other teams such as Collingwood’s Dane Swan and Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt, came together in Melbourne today for a training session and to receive their guernseys ahead of their departure.

Goodes will be supported by three vice captains - Swan, Carlton's Kade Simpson and the Western Bulldogs' Matthew Boyd.
