Injured Swan Gary Rohan has received an outpouring of online support following his horrific injury in Sunday’s game against North Melbourne.

Fans, team mates and celebrities have turned to Twitter and Facebook to send their best wishes to the 20-year-old, who has been ruled out of the 2012 season after suffering a compound fracture of his tibia.

The Sydney Swans Facebook page has received hundreds of comments in support of Rohan from fans, and even one from his own sister.

“Get well raz .... thinking of u will hope to see u soon

Love your favorite sister ;),” wrote Jessica Rohan.

“If you recover as fast as you run, you'll be better in no time! Look forward to seeing you back at your best next season!” wrote Swans fan Matt Seckold

On Twitter messages of encouragement have been sent to the player from across the nation.

Actress and Swans Ambassador Lynne McGranger, who is best known for her role as Irene on Home and Away, communicated her support to Rohan via Twitter.

“Hope @RohanGary mends quickly x,” McGranger tweeted.

“Fabulous win yesterday marred only by your injury! Get well soon xxx”

Rohan also received support from Brisbane Bronco Jharal Yow Yeh, who suffered a similar injury a NRL match last month.

“@RohanGary hey mate never met but just wanna wish you all the best with the recovery I know exactly how you feel #getbettersoon,” Yow Yeh posted on Rohan’s Twitter account.

While Australian netballer Catherine Cox also offered her sympathy to Rohan.

“@sydneyswans thinking of Gary Rohan..... Can't even imagine how that would have felt!,” Cox posted.

Swans players Jed Lamb, Tommy Walsh and Eugene Kruger all have been prominent in their support for their team mate, with Lamb posting a photo of the injured player in his hospital bed by request of Rohan.

“Just visiting @RohanGary! Wanted me to tweet this pic for all his fans! Doing well! ,” Lamb tweeted.

The Sydney Swans social media army has grown to over 100,000 this week, with the club’s Facebook fan page attracting more than 82,000 likes, the Swans Twitter account notching up over 17,000 followers, and over 1,000 others following the club via new avenues.

The Sydney Swans are active on the photo sharing social media site, Instagram. Fans can follow the Swans Instagram on username sydneyswans, and can connect with the page using the hashtag #goswans.

The Swans are also on the growing social media site Pinterest, which allows users to share and ‘pin’ their favourite Swans images as well as social media site Google+.
