Sydney Swans defender Nick Malceski is a chance to play in the reserves this weekend but a final assessment won’t be made until Friday.

Malceski tore his anterior cruciate ligament on March 3, fewer than 10 weeks ago, and has made a remarkable recovery so far.

Malceski began full training with the group last week and will be assessed after he completes training on Thursday.

Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said it would depend how Malceski felt on Friday. “If he can get through the training this week we’re going to start playing him this weekend on a reduced game time, so fingers will be crossed,’’ Cameron said.

“But his body is holding up well this week and we’ll see how he goes.’’

Malceski had LARS surgery on his knee almost immediately after the injury, which happened at training, and has progressed smoothly through the rehabilitation.

Young Swan Campbell Heath had LARS surgery in late January and he is also recovering well. Heath will make his comeback in the reserves this weekend.
"Campbell has done quite a few weeks of solid training and is really ready to go, so he’s going to start playing on Saturday,’’ Cameron said.

In other injury news, Cameron confirmed Mike Pyke will miss around four weeks with a quad strain which happened when he took off to run in the last quarter against the Bulldogs.

And ex-West Coast player, Matt Spangher, strained his hamstring in his second game back after recovering from a quad strain.

“Unfortunately  it was his second game back from a quad strain so his overall condition is a little bit down compared to the rest of the players. Coupled with playing very early in Canberra -  they were warming up just after 7am - so there were a few factors which contributed to what is a minor hamstring strain.’’

Kieren Jack is off his crutches and walking around this week but Cameron still expects him to miss three more games.

Gary Rohan’s knee, which showed cartilage damage, has settled down and he is resuming training, while Daniel Bradshaw continues on his running program.

“Daniel Bradshaw is still just running, he’s not training yet and we’re working on his running and sensitive to how his knee will cope with any load.’’
