Last year I went on my first European holiday, visiting London, Barcelona, Ireland and parts of Italy. I enjoyed the trip immensely and would love to head back at some stage when my bank balance has recovered! But as great as it was visiting foreign parts of the world and eating different cuisines, I still find Australia the most appealing.
This week I'm going to give you a brief rundown of a few places I like visiting in Oz.
I love getting back home to Terrigal on the Central Coast. It’s great as it’s only an hour’s drive north of Sydney so its quite easy to get away. I try and get back for a few weeks every year to unwind and recharge the battery. I pack my golf clubs with me and fit in a few rounds of golf, usually at Tuggerah Lakes golf club where I am a member.
I also really rate the beaches there, because unlike Sydney they aren't half as crowded, and finding a car park isn't like getting Kieren Jack to pay you back-impossible!
Further up on the North Coast, I’ve found a gem at Yamba. It is a fantastic part of the world. My girlfriend Hailey is from Yamba so I get to venture up there quite a bit. It's not very big, so you’re not going to find the big food chains like KFC and McDonalds (unlucky Craig Bird).
I really enjoy escaping to Yamba and devouring its fresh seafood and tasting the famous Yamba prawns that are Bruce McAvaney Sssssspeeeccciallll! There are about eight beaches on offer and with such a small population you can almost get the beach to yourself. This is great for me to practice my surfing without getting in the way of the locals!
Just recently I went to Maroochydoore on the Sunshine Coast which is home to ex Swan Benny Matthews. While up there I hired a car and drove around the area and up north to Noosa. Again, the beaches were a highlight of the trip, but Maroochy had some great restaurants and cafes that really impressed me. I'd love to head back up soon.
Where the bloody hell are you?
