The QBE Sydney Swans Academy senior girls squads had two hard fought contests against the Giants on Saturday afternoon in their second match of the season.

The U17 and U19 teams travelled to Ainslie Oval in Canberra to face cross-town rivals, the GWS Giants for the second week running.

After recording historic victories in their inaugural matches last weekend, the tables were turned with the Giants securing victories in both clashes on Saturday, details below.

U17s

After the weekend’s games, the Under 19 Academy team has one more match this season, travelling to Geelong on March 13 to play a NAB League game against the Geelong Falcons.

The U19 AFLW National Championships will take place in April on the Gold Coast, with players from the QBE Sydney Swans Academy and Giants Academies coming together as part of a combined Allies team.

In 2021, 326 female athletes will participate in the QBE Sydney Swans Academy. Of those, 224 will participate in the Youth Girls program (U12 to U15 age groups) and 92 in the new Top End program (U16 to U19 age groups).

These talented players coming through the QBE Academy program will be the genesis of the future Sydney Swans AFLW side. Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley has said that a Swans AFLW team remains a priority for the club, but it’s difficult to put a timeline on entry into the competition.
