Hailing from Victoria, Lewis Melican was rookie-listed by the Sydney Swans in November 2014 and enjoyed a breakthrough 2017 season enroute to winning the club’s Rising Star award. He kept St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt to just 10 possessions and one goal in Round 18 to also claim an AFL Rising Star nomination. After failing to make an appearance in 2022 due to injury, Melican returned to play late in the 2023 season to make an impact in the backline. After a solid pre-season block the defender found form and consistency in 2024 to play all but two matches.
