Western Bulldogs v Sydney Swans - Round Three
Thursday, March 31. 7:20pm
Marvel Stadium

INS: Joel Amartey
OUTS: Logan McDonald

The Sydney Swans have named their team to face the Western Bulldogs on Thursday night at Marvel Stadium.

Senior coach John Longmire has made just one change to the side, following their impressive 30-point win over Geelong at the SCG.

“Logan McDonald is out, and in comes Joel Amartey. Joel has had a bit of a delayed start to the pre-season with some groin issues. He’s worked through those and played the last few games in reserves now. Joel plays a number of different roles for us, we’re looking forward to having him back in the team.

Our win against the Cats was an even performance across the board. We’re really looking to share the load across the team at the moment, and it was a strong performance over four quarters. Geelong got a couple of goes at it, as they usually do because they’re a very good team, but we were able to get back the momentum at important times. It was a strong performance but we’re looking forward to continually improving, and that’s what we’ll be looking for this week.”

Longmire admits the short turnaround this week has worked in the Swans favour, following what was an historic night at the SCG with Lance Franklin’s 1000th goal milestone.

“It’s another 6-day break for us but I think that’s a good thing this week. It gets us into gear pretty quickly, and we have to make sure our focus is on the Western Bulldogs who are back on the home deck down in Melbourne.

The Western Bulldogs are an A-grade team, they had a brilliant season last year. We know their midfield is incredible as far as depth goes and talentwise, they play a really strong brand of footy. It will be a tough game and we’re really looking forward to it. It will be great to get back in front of our Melbourne based supporters.”
