Swans forward Isaac Heeney is relieved he will only miss the next four to six weeks after scans revealed a strain to his posterior cruciate ligament.
Heeney landed awkwardly on his knee in the second quarter of Saturday’s win over Melbourne forcing him to be subbed out.
Scans earlier in the week revealed no damage to his anterior cruciate ligament allying any fears of a knee reconstruction.
“I am pretty lucky it wasn’t the ACL just the PCL so hopefully it is not too long,” Heeney said.
“It is already feeling better, it has improved pretty quickly over the last few days which is good so hopefully that can continue.
“I didn’t really expect much as it wasn’t much of a landing and as you would see it didn’t look too bad.”
The 19-year-old rising star nominee originally thought he had simply suffered a cork in the incident.
“I thought I just had a corked leg from the contest then got up, tried to straighten out my leg and I couldn’t,” he said.
“I thought I would try to run it off and see how it goes but from there it just gave way so I thought that’s not great.”
Heeney has had a great start to his AFL career averaging 11 possessions and one goal per game in his first five matches.
He earned a Rising Star nomination for his four goal performance against GWS in Round 3 at the SCG.
Heeney said he was disappointed to be missing the next month of football.
“I am still shattered knowing I will miss a few weeks,” he said.
“This week I probably won’t be doing too much, just icing and physio flat out. Hopefully I can get back within four weeks playing again would be nice.”
