SYDNEY Swans midfielder Amon Buchanan says stringing four quarters together against powerhouse Geelong remains a frustrating problem for his side.

Buchanan, speaking after his side's 51-point loss to the Cats at Skilled Stadium on Saturday, said consistency had been a focus going into the round-seven clash but the Swans had let themselves down.

"It was really disappointing. To hold them to one goal in the first quarter, but then to let them kick seven goals in the second quarter blew the game out," he told sydneyswans.com.au.

"We were fired up and we were ready for the challenge and everyone was genuinely looking forward and having a crack at Geelong.

"The first quarter was good, but we dropped away. Over the last couple of years, history has shown we haven't played a four-quarter game against Geelong. A few quarters over the last couple of years has really let us down."

Buchanan was full of praise for Adam Goodes' effort against the Cats, which included 27 touches and two goals.

"His hit-and-run and attack from stoppages – it looked as though something clicked and he had that back today," he said.

"He was taking blokes on and was penetrating with his kicks, so he was back to some of his best football."

Buchanan, who hails from Colac in Victoria's western district, played in front of several family members. And he saved one of his better individual efforts so far this season for them, with 22 touches and six tackles, after a frustrating start to 2009.

"It was disappointing to [play in the AFL Canberra competition] and getting dropped [after round one]," Buchanan said.

"I also had a calf injury that I had to get over.

"So I've just tried to turn it around and hopefully I can keep working hard and get some more improvement."
