Rest to make Reid right

Rest is the best medicine for Sydney Swans forward Sam Reid in his recovery from a knee injury sustained in Saturday night’s 72-point win over the Gold Coast Suns.
Reid was subbed out of the game in the opening term after his knee got caught under Suns player Josh Caddy in a marking contest.
A scan on Sunday showed Reid had suffered a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee and that no surgery is required.
Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said today that the 20-year-old’s injury will heal naturally over time.
“His knee is stable,” Cameron told sydneyswans.com.au.
“Like any other ligament that needs to heal, whether it be in the ankle or in the shoulder, if it’s not too loose usually you can get going pretty quickly.
“Usually the pain will go out of it and when he’s able to run around and do the things he would normally do in a footy game without it hurting, then he’s right to go.”
Swans co-captain Adam Goodes suffered a corked thigh late in the game on the Gold Coast, but is expected to recover in time for this Sunday’s game against Carlton at Etihad Stadium.
Cameron said that Goodes will have a light training load to start the week before participating in full training on Friday.
“The longer week helps him,” he said.
“He got a cork to his thigh and without having to do too much until Friday (the Swans’ main training session) it means his cork will recover in that time.”
The Swans ruck stocks will likely receive a boost this weekend with Shane Mumford and Mark Seaby both in line for selection should they get through the week’s training schedule.
Swans coach John Longmire said yesterday that Mumford “would come straight back into the team” if passed fit, with Cameron believing that is a strong possibility.
“He’s up and running, he ran fast yesterday and he’s pulled up well from that,” Cameron said.
“He’ll do some skill work tomorrow and then aim to train with the team on Friday and if he gets through all of that he’ll be putting his hand up for selection. If he can get through that he’ll be right.”
Seaby, who has struggled with a calf injury in recent times, will look to return through the reserves, who play UWS Giants at Skoda Stadium on Saturday morning.
“He’s up and running and with training being tomorrow we’re hoping he’ll do some training,” Cameron said.
“The reserves are playing on Saturday, which makes the week a bit shorter, but we’ll see how he copes with his session tomorrow and we’ll make a decision either Thursday or Friday depending on how he copes with training tomorrow.”
Young Swans midfielder Tom Mitchell has been ruled out of playing this weekend after injuring his foot in the Swans reserves win back in round 17, but Cameron is hopeful he will put his name up for selection next weekend.
“He’s injured the middle of his foot so we’ll take a few precautions with that part of the body because a lot of force goes through there when you’re running,” Cameron said.
“He won’t be playing this week but we’re hoping he can get going for the following week.”
