Sydney Swans co-captain Adam Goodes said his side are looking no further than this weekend’s huge clash with Collingwood at ANZ Stadium.

Despite recording the club’s ninth-straight win - a feat that has not been achieved since the Swans moved to Sydney - Goodes said the upcoming weekend, rather than their run-in to finals, is what is on his team-mates’ minds.

“We don’t look at the next month - I couldn’t even tell you who we play over the next month - but I know we’ve got Collingwood next week,” Goodes told SwansTV after yesterday’s 22-point win over Carlton.

“Our position on the ladder means absolutely nothing at the moment; we’ve just got to keep the momentum we’ve got.”

The Swans will be looking to end their poor luck against the Pies, which has seen the club lose their last ten encounters with the Pies since 2005.

Goodes, who is one of the few players in the current Swans’ squad to have played in a winning team against Collingwood, said the home side will need to be at their absolute best this weekend.

“We haven’t beaten Collingwood for a very long time, so we’ve got to be super competitive this week and go out and chase them and tackle them,” he said.

“(What we need to do to win) is just what we’ve been able to produce this year, which has been a team effort and to stick our structures, to play a hard brand of football and really back our skills and keep putting that scoreboard pressure on the board.

“They’re playing some good footy, but so are we, so it should be a good contest and I hope all of Sydney gets behind us and gets out to ANZ next week.”

Reflecting on yesterday’s win over the Blues at Etihad Stadium, Goodes said he was impressed with the way his team were able to respond to every challenge.

He added that his team’s ability to cope with pressure has been a hallmark of the club’s success so far in 2012.

“We knew (Carlton) were going to bite and scratch to get a victory today,” Goodes said.

“They really had some momentum winning three of the last four and they wanted to stay in the finals’ race.

“They threw it all at us and I thought the way we were able to absorb that and the way we were able to keep attacking ourselves was quite pleasing.

“(Answering goals) has been the key and is something we’ve been able to do a lot this year.

“When an opposition gets the ball and get a goal and feel like they’re up and about, we’re able to instantly reply and take that pressure back off and really put the pressure back on them to keep coming at us.”

One player who stood up for the Swans yesterday was young midfielder Dan Hannebery, who finished the match with 31 disposals and two goals.

Speaking to SwansTV after the match, Hannebery said he was pleased the team were able to withstand the Blues’ challenge.

“(Carlton) had a massive dip, which we knew they would, and we just needed to make sure we had that pressure on early and our work rate, and we did that,” he said.

“The boys were pretty tired in the end, but it was good to get the win on the board.

“We knew they’d be quality today and they really took it up to us for most of the game but we got there in the end.”

Hannebery agreed that this weekend’s blockbuster clash with the Pies was the ultimate test for the Swans this season.

“Nine wins in a row is great but we still think we’ve got a lot of different areas where we can improve,” he said.

“It’s good to see that we have areas to improve on, and we’ll keep plugging away because there is a long way to go in the season yet.

“It’s going to be a huge game for us and we haven’t beaten (Collingwood) for a long time.

“They’re a top four side and we look forward to the challenge.”
