Record crowd turns up for AFLW Sydney Derby
Last week, the Sydney Swans issued a call out to all footy fans to help drive AFLW attendance to an average of 6,000, which is the benchmark the AFL has set to expand the season.
Fans and supporters turned up in their thousands to watch a hot contest between the Giants and the Swans, with 7,171 through the gates, a new record for AFLW at Henson Park.
Laidler and Campbell join Sydney Swans
The Sydney Swans have welcomed Jeremy Laidler back to the club as an assistant coach and appointed Wayne Campbell as Head of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy.
Laidler first joined the red and white in 2014 as a player, following previous stints at Geelong and Carlton. He has spent the past three seasons at the GWS Giants as an assistant coach, looking after the side’s forward line.
Campbell joins the Sydney Swans following four years as the Gold Coast Suns General Manager of Football.
Joel Hamling extends with Sydney Swans
The versatile Joel Hamling has re-signed with the Sydney Swans for another season, tying him to the red and white until at least the end of 2026.
The 32-year-old is known for his ability to play at both ends of the ground. In particular, his work in defence has been a highlight with Sydney, alongside the likes of Tom McCartin.

Sydney Swans senior coach Scott Gowans spoke to the media on Wednesday ahead of his side's clash against Adelaide on Sunday.
"It's always a hard-fought game (against Adelaide) but it's done in the right way," he said.
"We're just looking forward to the challenge, and no better. You have a couple of losses in a row, and it just puts a bit of fire in your belly to come out and have a really good crack at it.”
