Three fresh faces will don the red and white, with the Swans securing Charlie Curnow, Jai Serong and Malcolm Rosas Jnr through the 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period. It comes as we bid farewell to Will Hayward, Ollie Florent, and Jack Buller.
The Curnow trade came down to the wire, going through in the dying minutes of the trade period, after the club reached agreement with Carlton.
Curnow joins Sydney in exchange for Will Hayward and our first round draft picks in 2025, 2026 and 2027. It follows an earlier trade with Carlton that saw Ollie Florent depart the Swans in exchange for a future third-round pick.
Meanwhile we’ve bolstered our backline by bringing in key defender Jai Serong from Hawthorn, along with a future fourth-round pick. Jai’s talent and versatility down back will be an asset for the club next season.
Rounding out our new recruits, speedy forward Malcolm Rosas Jnr joins from the Gold Coast Suns, along with selection 62 in the upcoming National Draft. We can’t wait to see Malcolm’s pace and creativity light up the SCG.
Farewells
As we look forward to the future, we also pause to celebrate and thank our departing Swans.
Will Hayward and Ollie Florent both leave as Life Members, after outstanding contributions of 184 games each in the red and white, including appearances in two AFL Grand Finals. Jack Buller also departs as part of a trade with Collingwood, and we’re grateful for his efforts during his time at the club.
There’s no doubt it’s been a trade period full of big moves and big emotions. We’re excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to see our new Swans in action in 2025. Welcome to Sydney, Charlie, Jai and Malcolm.

What the recruiters said on the trade period
"It was very busy and a fair bit going on, obviously, towards the back end of the night tonight. But we ended up reaching a deal that both parties were pretty satisfied with in the end," said Chris Keane.
"We knew we had to give up something to get the deal done and get a player of Charlie's calibre in. We're extremely empathetic towards Will and Ollie in this deal as well, but we walked into this knowing fully that we probably had to give up a fair bit.
"We feel like we have, but we've also somewhat protected ourselves in this draft and in future drafts as well.
What the recruiters said on our farewells
"It's been really tricky. We walked into this knowing that there had to be a fair bit of dialogue throughout," said Chris Keane.
"They're never easy conversations, but you try and have them the right way through the manager, through the player. And at the end of the day, they were players of interest for Carlton and we knew we had to stump up to get Charlie Curnow through."
What the recruiters said about the Curnow trade
"It was some good conversations and some good negotiations. Carlton are entitled to negotiate pretty hard. I think both parties did. And we ended up walking away with a deal that we're both happy with in the end," said Chris Keane
"There's a lot of complexities throughout the whole trade really. And also the human element of the two boys that were ultimately in the deal for Charlie.
"And we know they're really popular members both on and off the field for our footy club. And we wish them all the best at Carlton as well.
"[The last sticking point] was probably just the back and forth around what we were getting back, to be honest, in the deal. We knew they wanted some fair compensation and a player attached to it. But we also wanted to get something back in the deal as well, which we ended up getting there pretty late," Keane added.
