The Swans will be searching for a third straight victory when they take on the Giants at Metricon Stadium on Sunday at 6.10pm.
GWS edged Sydney by just two-points when they last met in Round 5 at the SCG, and Swans coach John Longmire expects it to be another thrilling contest.
“The Giants beat us last time, it went down to the last minute. We’ve had some great close contests with the Giants, and that never changes wherever it’s played.”
Co-captain Dane Rampe has been impressed at the club’s ability to bounce back following a tough finish to the first half of the season that saw Hawthorn hand Sydney a 38-point loss.
“The BYE gave us a really good chance to reassess where we’re at and make some changes to our game plan that we wouldn’t have been able to make if we were still in the week-to-week schedule," Rampe said.
"While we had that bad loss to Hawthorn where they smashed us around the ball, particularly in contested possessions, we made some changes and we were really clear with what we needed to do. We didn’t get the chocolates against Port Adelaide but what we’ve done since has been positive, we’re confident in the changes we have made and we seemed to have implemented them well.”
Despite spending the second half of the season interstate, Rampe says the Swans have felt right at home at every game thanks to the red and white faithful.
“We’ve always had such a strong showing of South Melbourne supporters, whether at Marvel or at the MCG. It’s been unbelievable. To hear South Melbourne chants going around on the weekend at Marvel Stadium was pretty special given the significance of the heritage jumper we were wearing.
"We spoke to Bob Skilton and Peter Bedford the day before our game against the Western Bulldogs. Witnessing the pride they have in the jumper and to be able to do them proud with a win - it was probably what we played for on the weekend. The support has just been unbelievable, it does make it feel like a home away from home.”
The move to Queensland comes after Sydney spent the past three weeks in Victoria – but despite the reshuffle of fixtures and schedules, Longmire says the club remains focused.
“We put one foot in front of the other at the moment. Things change so quickly on and off the ground for both teams that you do very much live in the moment, day to day because you have to. You need to focus your energy on what you can control.”
